Who Victor Is
Player:
Name Pronunciation: vik-tore nev-en
Gender: Man.
Manner: Gregarious.
Goal: To figure out his future.
Backstory: Victor is a traditionally trained actor and aerial performer. His performances entrance young and old alike. For many years he has been part of The Anyplace Variety Showcase, a well-loved performance troupe that tours the festival circuit every summer. As a Showcase member, he makes enough money to get by in the off season, but he rarely makes more than that. Now that Victor is approaching his retirement, he is worried about his future. Victor loves performing, but he needs to find a way to make some extra money.
Behavior: Victor is extroverted and gregarious. As a performer, he delights in the joy of his audience. To the other members of his troupe he is also known as hardworking and dependable, someone who is always ready to help out. Despite living a happy life, Victor’s ongoing financial struggles have made him prone to short bouts of melancholy and he can occasionally be found staring off into space, lost in thought.
Appearance: Victor is a dragon-like humanoid with wings and a tail. He is six and a half feet tall with a narrow, light build. His scales are a purple so deep that it becomes black on the tips of his fingers, toes, wings, tail, and nose. As an older Dragon-Folk person, he has a light sprinkling of silver scales across his body. These silver scales catch the light and the contrasting deep purple around them makes them look like stars sparking in the night sky. Victor wears a purple silk vest and matching pants.
Relationships:
What Victor Can Do
Class: Bard.
Body #: 3
Mind #: 5
Species: Dragon-Folk.
Species Trait—Flight: Victor has wings and can use them to fly.
Species Trait—Magical Nature: You have an inherent magical quality that is expressed in two minor magical effects that you can do. These minor magical effects can be used without risk of failure, which means that no roll is needed to use them. However, if you incorporate one of them into a more complicated action, you will need to roll to accomplish that action.
- Minor Magical Effect: Amplify your voice.
- Minor Magical Effect: Send a secret message to one nearby person. This can be done in any language that you both know. Only the person that you select receives your message.
Physical Defense—Shield: You are trained to use a shield for physical defense. This can be any type of shield from your culture. You own a shield and you can use this training any time that you are holding it. However your shield requires one hand to use, so you cannot do any two-handed tasks while using it. In addition, your shield can be taken away by disarming attacks.
Mental Defense—Protective Outfit: You are trained to use a special protective outfit for mental defense and you can use this training any time that you are wearing it. However you are unable to sleep in this outfit (perhaps it is too delicate or lumpy to sleep in), and it takes a significant amount of time to put on. Victor’s vest and pants are lined with a magical fabric.

Main Performance Styles: Acting and aerial acrobatics.
Magical Performance: You use artistic performance to connect with magical energies. This means that when you want to cast magic, you can use either of your two main types of performance from the Performance skill to cast a spell. Only brief performances are needed to cast a single spell. If you wish, longer performances can be used to cast multiple spells.
One important aspect of magical performance is that your skill at casting magic is not a reflection of your artistic skill. Each type of magic is a separate ability that needs to be studied (Victor knows Enhancement Magic and Attention Magic). This means that the dice rolls for casting magic are based on the text of each magic ability and not on the Performance skill. For this purpose, magic is any ability with the word “Magic” in its name.
Because magical performance is the act of using performance to channel magical energy, that magic infuses the performance in some obvious way. You get to decide what this is like. One important consequence of this is that, unlike other forms of magic, magical performance can’t be used subtly or hidden with a skill.
Magic cast using a magical performance can affect anyone, regardless of whether or not they can perceive the performance. In addition, like other forms of magic, most ongoing spells last for one scene. Partial successes may shorten this duration and outstanding successes may increase it.
Ability #1—Enhancement Magic: You can create magical effects that temporarily enhance yourself and others. Each time that you use Enhancement Magic, pick a specific thing that you are enhancing. For example, you can enhance traits like size, speed, strength, dexterity, toughness, comprehension, memory, and charisma. Specific skills, abilities, and types of defensive training can also be enhanced. Except in cases where an enhancement allows a character to do something that would not otherwise be possible, Enhancement Magic is considered preparation. Enhancement Magic can also be used to detect and remove others’ enhancements. This magic is used by rolling mind and you are trained in it.
Ability #2—Attention Magic: You can create magical effects that influence focus and attention. Attention Magic can be used to directly help or interfere with someone’s ability to focus. It can also direct attention toward something. For example, it can create a momentary distraction by suddenly drawing everyone’s focus to a specific person or object, make an ongoing distraction more compelling, shape a conversation by making a specific topic more interesting, cause a performance to entrance its audience, and make an object seem so fascinating that people can’t look away. In addition, Attention Magic can be used to prevent people from noticing something, such as a person or object. It can also detect and undo others’ Attention Magic. This magic is used by rolling mind and you are trained in it.
Ability #3—Flying Expert: You are an expert at flying. Once per day you may turn a failed Flying skill roll (zero successes) into a partial success (one success). This ability must be used before the consequences of failure are revealed. You may take this ability twice if you desire.
Ability #4—Extra Species Trait: You have manifested an additional species trait. This means that Victor has two species traits instead of one.
Equipment Victor Has
Special Item—Cloak of Many Garments: With a moment of concentration, the wearer of this cloak can transform their non-magical clothing and accessories into any non-magical outfit they desire. This cloak can transform itself, but it must stay as an outer garment. Because this is a full transformation, the transformed clothing is as sturdy, flimsy, warm, or cool as would be expected for their new forms. Any garment that is removed from the person wearing this cloak immediately returns to its original form. Removing the cloak ends the transformation. Victor uses this cloak to create costumes for performances.
Tools for Skills: Theatrical makeup that is used for the Performance skill.
Defensive Equipment: Victor has a shield. In addition, his vest and pants are lined with a magical fabric that makes them a protective outfit.
