Illustration of a bromeliad with green outer leaves and red inner leaves with a small pond in its center. The pond has lily pads and three white flowers.

Safety Rating: Harmless.

Environment: Cliff sides in tropical forests.

Details: This enormous bromeliad from the Cloud Mountains hovers in the air. It has long trailing roots which anchor it so that it doesn’t float away, though it does shift around in the air with the direction of the wind. Floating Ponds are typically found anchored to the sides of cliffs.

When full grown, a Floating Pond’s enormous red-green leaves form a cup so big that it holds an entire pond, with the largest ones reaching the size of an average swimming pool. These ponds are teaming with life, including water plants, insects, frogs, and even fish. In the Cloud Mountains, Winged Fish can sometimes being seen gliding between Floating Ponds.

Inspiration: Saxicolous bromeliads.
