Who Jacqueline Is

Player:

Name Pronunciation: jack-ah-lynn Y-uh-ng

Gender: Woman.

Manner: Bold.

Goal: Excitement.

Backstory: Jacqueline grew up in a small coastal town that is regularly troubled by pirate raids. Tired of feeling helpless, she joined the Gray Falcon Mercenary Company. The Gray Falcons are a disreputable crew of bounty hunters that have had great success in capturing pirates. There Jacqueline prospered as she quickly gained a reputation for tenacity and bravery. However, after a falling out over one of the Gray Falcons’ questionably legal activities, Jacqueline left them and set off on her own.

New Life: Now that she is on her own, Jacqueline spends her time traveling from place to place experiencing the world as she figures out what is next for her. She makes money by taking on occasional adventuring gigs.

Behavior: Jacqueline works hard and afterward she likes to relax. However, Jacqueline’s idea of relaxation is quite energetic, as she is drawn to novelty and excitement. She is attracted to spirited women, and is bold in her flirtation.

Albinism: Having albinism affects more than Jacqueline’s appearance; it affects her vision, causing extreme nearsightedness. This means that without corrective lenses, she has difficulty seeing anything more than a foot away. It also makes depth perception harder, requiring her to use other cues in order to gauge distances. In addition, her eyes and skin are sensitive to bright light. Because she burns but never tans, clothing that protects her skin from sunlight is important. Tinted lenses help her see in bright light, but the brightness still makes it difficult to see in dim areas.

Appearance: As a human, Jacqueline is five and a half feet tall with white hair, extremely pale skin, and silvery eyes. She wears a simple shirt and pants with a teal jacket that is tied with a sash. To protect her skin she wears long sleeves, gloves, and a hood. She has two pairs of goggles with thick corrective lenses, a tinted one that she uses in bright light and a clear one that she can use in dim light. In rat form she has cream-colored fur with a pink nose, eyes, and paws. Most notably, she is wearing a pair of miniature goggles.

Relationships:

What Jacqueline Can Do

Class: Bard.

Body #: 5

Mind #: 3

Species: Human and Wererat.

Species Trait—Limited Shapeshifting: You can shapeshift between human and rat forms. This transformation happens automatically without requiring a dice roll.

Physical Defense—Dodging: You are trained to use dodging for physical defense. The aesthetics of this dodging are up to you. However you are only able to dodge in situations where you have the freedom to move. This means that any time you are squeezing through a tight space, are balanced precariously, or are restrained, you cannot dodge.

Mental Defense—Deflection: You are trained to use deflection for mental defense. Deflection is the process of using special gestures to alter the way magic moves so that it avoids you. The aesthetics of this deflection are up to you. However doing this requires large physical gestures, so you are only able to use deflection in situations where you have the freedom to move. This means that any time you are squeezing through a tight space, are balanced precariously, or are restrained, you cannot deflect.

Main Performance Styles: Boasting and juggling knives.

Ability #1—Derring-do: You are practiced at accomplishing feats of derring-do. Three times a day, you are considered prepared when you attempt a daring maneuver with the Acrobatics, Athletics, Climbing, Flying, Mobility, Riding, or Swimming skills. A daring maneuver is an action that is reckless, bold, or risky. Attempting a daring maneuver is a significant risk, and, as a result, the consequences of failure are more severe. You may take this ability twice if you desire.

Ability #2—Swashbuckling: You are an expert at using daring and flamboyant maneuvers. Any time you get a full success (two successes) when doing a daring action, the results are larger-than-life. This means that the outcome is more dramatic than it would otherwise be, granting you an additional benefit. In essence, this ability turns a full success into an outstanding success (three successes). A daring action is any action that is reckless, bold, or risky. Attempting a daring action is a significant risk, and, as a result, the consequences of failure are more severe.

Ability #3—Flamboyant: You do everything with so much style that it influences others. When you successfully pull off a daring action (two or three successes), you impress onlookers. This means that you count as prepared when you use the Communicating with Animals, Deception, Diplomacy, Intimidation, or Performance skills with someone who observed your daring maneuver. Note that this ability only applies when the social roll takes place in the same scene as the daring action. A daring action is any action that is reckless, bold, or risky. Attempting a daring action is a significant risk, and, as a result, the consequences of failure are more severe.

Ability #4—Skillful: You know more skills than most people. Jacqueline is trained in ten skills instead of eight.

Nearsightedness: To represent Jacqueline’s experience of Albinism and nearsightedness, without corrective lenses Jacqueline can’t use Awareness Skills (Insight, Perception, Survival) to do difficult visual tasks that call for dice rolls. Jacqueline still gets basic visual information about her surroundings and doing this doesn’t require a dice roll. However she is not able to do things that are visually difficult, like spotting a person hiding in the bushes. That said, Jacqueline can still use Awareness Skills with her other senses.

When wearing corrective lenses, Jacqueline can use Awareness Skills to do difficult visual tasks, but she needs to make Perception skill rolls to gauge depth or see in dim areas.

Equipment Jacqueline Has

Special Item—Ring of Luck: Once per day you can reroll a single dice roll. This means that you reroll all of your dice. You must take the new result even if it is lower.

Tools for Skills: Sword that is used for the Melee Combat skill. Juggling and throwing knives that are used for both the Ranged Combat and Performance skills. Climbing gear that is used for the Climbing skill.

Adaptive Devices: Jacqueline has clothing that covers her skin and two pairs of goggles with thick corrective lenses, one clear and the other tinted. The goggles are made of a special material that allows them to change shape with her so that she is still wearing goggles in rat form.
