Illustration of a green-colored heron flying over dark, teal water.

Safety Rating: Seasonally dangerous to small aquatic species. Otherwise they are harmless.

Environment: Wetlands.

Details: The Green Heron is a type of migratory plant that has many bird-like traits. They have wings with leaves that act like feathers. Overall they look like a large, green heron with stiff, fibrous roots that act as legs. During warm weather they can be seen in the shallows of ponds and marshes with their wings stretched out and up toward the sun.

Freezing weather damages Green Herons, so they have seasonal migration patterns to avoid the frost. In preparation for each of these migratory flights, Green Herons store up energy in their roots. Additionally, in the month preceding each flight, Green Herons become carnivorous, hunting small aquatic animals at dawn and dusk for extra nutrients.
